Braves Rally in the ninth

BravesThe Date was May 20, 2010. The Braves were off to a pretty slow start to the season. After giving up 8 runs to the Cincinnati Reds in the top half of the inning Bobby Cox pulled started, Tommy Hanson. This was Bobby Cox’s final year and playoff hopes were already being questioned. They couldn’t score runs!

So an eight run deficit seemed insurmountable. By the ninth they were down 9-3. At this point in the year 3 runs was a lot of runs for the Braves. So I am sitting there listening to the game on the radio and as the game got into the latter innings started thinking:

“why even continue?” “Why are the Braves even taking the field?” “This thing is over!” “This is just embarrassing can’t they see it?” “Can’t they just admit it and go home?” “Bobby throw in the towel…just give the Reds the victory.” “Acknowledge the inevitable.” “You are delaying the inevitable.” “You are robbing the Reds of celebrating and moving on to the next opponent.”

OF COURSE I WAS NOT THINKING THAT!

I may have lost interest but growing up playing sports I was taught to play and fight until the game is over…don’t’ quit! As long as there are outs left or time on the clock play and play with all you got! You never give up. You never quit!

So this is why I am shocked to hear so many people call for Ron Paul to give up!

romneyMitt Romney is barely over half way to the needed delegates and they are declaring him the winner. And mind you that Gov. Romney has just over half the “PROJECTED” delegates. Most of the states to this point are Caucus states and the delegates are not bound to the election results. So as the states begin to actually seat delegates to the national convention, through the district and state conventions, the numbers will in all likely hood go up for Paul and down for Romney.

Long story short we really do NOT know how many delegates any of the candidates have.

Even if the projections are correct, the game isn’t over. Romney still has nearly 500 delegates needed to secure the nomination.

It maybe logical to think that he’s on the way. It is highly probable that he will. But it isn’t guaranteed.

Ron Paul is securing actual delegates in the Caucus states. He has money on hand and has no debt! There is some movement from the former Santorum supporters jumping behind the Ron Paul Revolution!

BACK TO THE BRAVES

In the bottom of the ninth the improbable happened. The Braves had already scored three runs and were still down three with one out. Brooks Conrad a major league journey man who was relatively unknown to most Braves fans was not only stepping into the batter’s box but was about to step into history. He was about to become a legend. A symbol of hope and never giving up. Never quitting. Why you play until the end.

This game that seemed over that seemed in hand was getting close. The bases are loaded and Brooks represented the winning run at the plate. Reds manager reluctantly has to bring in his ace closer, Francisco Cordero. Then it happened. Brooks hits a deep drive to left field. As the Reds left fielder leaps to catch the ball it tips off his glove and clears the wall.

A walk off grand slam! The Braves did it…they scored 7 runs in the bottom of the ninth to win. The improbable happened.

It doesn’t happen often but the improbable does happen. It may seem impossible but until it’s over anything is possible.

So to all the people telling Ron Paul to give up I say BRAVES WIN! Oh my God the BRAVES WIN!
